Feed the Muse – March to 10,000

Tim Kirkner

March to 10,000?   Friends, family and fans — I am seeking the magic 10,000 hours Malcolm Gladwell claims necessary to reach one’s full potential — in my case, writing & playing music. As I work to raise the funds to put out my first full length project, I intend to rack up more hours, writing and playing out whenever & wherever possible.

I’ve really been on this “march” or, shall I say, pilgrimage my whole life. Music has been a driving force from a young age and continues to permeate all parts of my life. I first learned about music from my parents and the sounds flowing out of their large stereo in my childhood living room. My writing now is less inspired by angry or sad rockers, and more often derived from the quirky images and scenes I see in the world.

While I’ve eeked out a decent number of songs over the years, more recently I have been able to prioritize writing and playing. I’ve also been privileged to play out more frequently and join a band – What Buzz. If I raise enough funds, I’m hoping to get some of the guys to add instrumentation to songs like “Paris” and “Save Me Too.”

As I inch closer to 10,000 hours and take a critical eye to my current catalog of tunes, I count about twelve to fifteen songs worthy of the studio – and enough to comprise of a full-length album. High on the list are “Passenger,” “Cold Shiver Point,” and “The Middle.” I’ve already recorded “Circus Scene” (2011 Mid-Atlantic Song Contest Honorable Mention winner) and “Fallin’ Out” in the studio. Both sound amazing and I can’t wait to get back into the studio to record the rest.

Many of you have been right by my side on this quest for 10,000. I’m so appreciative of all the hours already logged coming to shows, watching me play, listening to my tunes, suggesting ideas for songs, and giving feedback on works in progress. March with me now as we raise funds for the album!

And remember….all support, financial or otherwise, is immensely appreciated.
